It corporate that's the problem - Just found out that they are raising our storage fee by 20% - when I asked it's basically Compass policy to hit you with an increase every 6 months basically forever until it's so painful you decide to leave. They bank on you not wanting to move your stuff..... Also asked to move our parking spot to one that is more convenient for us - Was told no by corporate - on interest in long term relationships apparently.

Fred is the most amazing employee here!!! I totally recommend this storage company and to come see Fred! Be nice. He is my friend!!

I have used storage places for a long time and when I moved, I was looking for a new storage place. After going to several places I came across compass self storage. When I walked in, I met the person behind the desk that was the most friendly sincere and most knowledgeable person. Usually people that work in those places are not the most friendly, but Katie was absolutely fantastic. She answered all of my questions completely with a smile on her face. I don’t understand why more places cannot hire people like Katie. They are lucky to have her working there. and it was such a pleasure to deal with her on a rental unit. I give her five stars.

While the customer service at this company is amazing, the way that the company itself treats customers is appalling. I have had a storage unit for about 5 years and during that time they increased my rental from roughly $250 dollars to $566 dollars a month. They had no complaints about me during my stay but continued to increase my unit fees outrageously. When I spoke to the workers at the storage unit they were very apologetic and genuinely tried to help, but due to their companies policy of price gouging they were unable to do that. I will never rent another unit from Compass and will never recommend this company to anyone I know.

DISCLAIMER: I WAS NOT, in any sense, given, promised, or otherwise compensated anything in return for writing this review. I am posting this motivated by my positive experience. I’ve been around the block renting with storage companies. You name, I’ve stored. This is especially true for the local offerings in the Sarasota-Manatee area. I had been looking to downsize to a smaller, most accessible unit, ideally with tighter security and broader hours of entry for renters. This location of Compass at the corner of Lockwood Ridge and Tallevast offered precisely the upgrade I needed, with some generous features I was not expecting from a commercial storage company. Their facilities are squeaky clean, services offered are prompt and thorough, security and accessibility/hours are both leagues ahead of the local competitors, and management is friendly and knowledgeable. I started my rental with the help of manager Michael Grubb. He exhibited the greatest degree of professionalism and courteousness I’ve encountered in at least a decade of renting all throughout the Sarasota and Manatee areas. If this location is nearby where you live or work, this is an absolute no brainer; look no farther and reserve your unit before the season kicks into full gear. If this location is a teensy bit of a drive compared to what’s near you, do yourself the favor and drive a little out of your way. Your extra couple of miles will be rewarded with the safest, friendliest, overall best experience available in our area for storage rentals and more. I feel certain you will have nothing but the most positive experience you have ever had with this field. Thank you again, Michael, and keep up the competition-smoking work. I have no intention of renting elsewhere in Sarasota-Manatee now or in future, and this Lockwood location of Compass really earned that statement from me.

One manager didn’t even file an incident report until I told him I had the police coming to file a report. So I got poked in the eye for $900/month for 2 storage units and get my toe stomped on with my stuff stolen. Too bad negative stars are not an option.

Initially had a mobile pick up for a uhaul at a different storage facility not related and they failed to properly set up our truck on time setting us back. Uhaul sent us to compass and Fred helped us get the right uhaul for us very smoothly and we appreciated that. When I dropped off the uhaul the next day Aaron was an absolute delight. Dropped the uhaul off 3 minutes before close and he was so friendly and kind and made the transaction so effortless. Will be coming back to compass next time I need a Uhaul and will definitely be recommending them to anyone who needs storage or Uhaul, especially with people like Aaron up front. I rented a 10' Haul truck from Compass Storage. The online reservation system was great. A truck was available with short notice. The process was quick and simple. The process of picking up the truck was simple. Both Fred and another man were very professional and polite. The return after business hours was a bit cumbersome using the return by phone process. Having to take so many pictures took time that I didn't expect. But, in the end, I'll rent from here again in a heartbeat. I won't even look for any other place.
